Sleep & Mood

For light, broken sleep and the frayed, flat mood that follows it.

Poor sleep and low mood feed each other. Sleep gets lighter with age, stress and screens; a few bad nights turn into weeks; and before long you’re irritable, foggy and reaching for caffeine by mid-morning. Sleeping pills knock you out but don’t give you the deep, restorative stages your brain and body actually need.

Peptide therapy for sleep and mood takes a different route. Growth hormone peptides such as CJC-1295/Ipamorelin deepen slow-wave sleep. DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) supports the shift into deep sleep. Selank and Semax help regulate stress and mood signaling in the brain. Dr. Loera matches the peptide to the pattern you describe, whether that’s trouble falling asleep, waking at 3 a.m., or feeling wired and worn out at the same time.

How it helps

How sleep and mood peptides help

Rather than forcing sleep, these peptides restore the signals that organize it, and quiet the stress chemistry that keeps mood flat.

More deep sleep

Growth hormone peptides taken at bedtime increase slow-wave sleep, the stage where tissue repair, immune work and memory consolidation happen.

Falling asleep easier

DSIP supports the transition into sleep and is often used for people who lie awake with a busy mind.

Calmer stress response

Selank modulates GABA and serotonin signaling, taking the edge off anxiety without sedation or dulling.

Brighter mood and focus

Semax supports BDNF, a growth factor tied to mood, motivation and mental clarity.

Daytime energy

When deep sleep returns, the afternoon slump, caffeine dependence and irritability usually ease on their own.

No sedative trade-offs

Unlike sleeping pills, these peptides don’t cause grogginess, tolerance or dependence.

Matching the peptide to your sleep problem

  • You sleep, but never feel rested: CJC-1295/Ipamorelin or sermorelin at bedtime to deepen slow-wave sleep.
  • You can’t switch off at night: DSIP, sometimes with Selank earlier in the evening.
  • You wake at 3 or 4 a.m. with your mind racing: stress-axis support with Selank, plus sleep-hygiene and blood-sugar adjustments.
  • Low mood, low motivation, brain fog: Semax, often paired with a sleep peptide because the two problems travel together.

Snoring, gasping or waking unrefreshed despite enough hours can mean sleep apnea, which peptides won’t fix. We’ll screen for it and refer you for a sleep study if it’s likely.

Peptides and your current medications

If you take antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication or a sleep aid, bring the list. Many patients use peptides alongside them without issue, and some are eventually able to reduce a sleep aid with their prescriber’s help. We never ask you to stop a prescription on your own, and we coordinate with your other doctors when needed.

What a protocol looks like

Sleep peptides are taken at bedtime, usually as a small subcutaneous injection five nights a week. Selank and Semax are typically used as a nasal spray in the morning or early evening. A first course runs eight to twelve weeks. We check in at two weeks, when sleep changes usually show up, and again at the end to decide whether to continue, taper or switch.

Candidates

Is sleep and mood peptide therapy right for me?

Often a good fit

  • Light or broken sleep that leaves you unrefreshed
  • Trouble falling asleep because your mind won’t settle
  • Stress, low-grade anxiety or a flat mood that’s wearing you down
  • Wanting to avoid or reduce reliance on sleeping pills
  • Willing to pair treatment with basic sleep habits (consistent bedtime, less late screen time)

Let’s talk first

  • Suspected sleep apnea (we’ll screen and refer first)
  • Major depression, bipolar disorder or active suicidal thoughts, which need psychiatric care first
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active cancer or cancer treatment in the last five years
  • Uncontrolled diabetes if growth hormone peptides are being considered

The process

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Consultation

We map your sleep pattern and mood, screen for apnea and other causes, and review medications and labs.

  2. Step 2

    Your protocol

Dr. Loera chooses the peptide or pair, dose and timing, and gives you a short sleep-hygiene plan to run alongside it.

  3. Step 3

    Teaching

Injection technique or nasal-spray use is demonstrated in the office. It takes under a minute at home.

  4. Step 4

    Eight to twelve weeks

Prescriptions ship from a licensed compounding pharmacy. Track your sleep and mood in a simple log we provide.

  5. Step 5

    Check-ins

A two-week check-in to adjust, then a review at the end of the course.

Good to know

Sleep and mood questions, answered

What is the best peptide for sleep?

For people who sleep but don’t feel restored, CJC-1295/Ipamorelin at bedtime is the most common choice because it deepens slow-wave sleep. For trouble falling asleep, DSIP is often used. Many protocols combine a sleep peptide with Selank for stress.

Do peptides work like sleeping pills?

No. Sleeping pills sedate you. Sleep peptides restore the signals that organize natural sleep stages, so you get more deep sleep without grogginess, tolerance or dependence. They don’t knock you out, and they take a week or two to build.

Can peptides help with anxiety?

Selank is the peptide most used for stress and anxiety. It modulates the same calming pathways that anti-anxiety medications act on, but without sedation or dependence. It’s a good option for low-grade, persistent anxiety; it is not a substitute for psychiatric care in more serious cases.

What is Semax?

Semax is a peptide developed in Russia that supports BDNF, a growth factor linked to mood, motivation and learning. It’s used for low mood, brain fog and focus, and it’s typically taken as a nasal spray.

How quickly will my sleep improve?

Most people notice a change in sleep depth within one to two weeks of starting a bedtime growth hormone peptide. Mood changes with Selank or Semax tend to build over three to six weeks.

Are sleep and mood peptides FDA approved?

No. They are prescribed off-label and prepared by compounding pharmacies, and availability changes as regulations evolve. Dr. Loera will confirm what can currently be prescribed.

Will I become dependent on them?

There’s no evidence of dependence or withdrawal with these peptides. When you stop a growth hormone peptide, sleep depth gradually returns to your baseline; it doesn’t rebound worse.

Can I take them with my antidepressant?

Often yes. Bring your full medication list and we’ll review interactions and coordinate with your prescriber. Never stop a psychiatric medication on your own.

What are the side effects?

Growth hormone peptides can cause vivid dreams, mild water retention or tingling early on. Nasal sprays can cause brief nasal irritation. Serious side effects are rare, and we monitor you throughout.

How much does a sleep and mood protocol cost?

It depends on the peptides and course length. Peptide therapy is self-pay and not covered by insurance. We’ll give you a clear quote at your consultation; our price list is always available.
