Cognitive Support

For the brain fog, scattered focus and slipping recall that coffee doesn’t fix.

Brain fog is a vague name for a very specific feeling: you read the same paragraph three times, lose the thread mid-sentence, forget why you walked into a room. It shows up with poor sleep, chronic stress, hormonal shifts, long illnesses and plain aging, and it responds poorly to more caffeine.

Cognitive support peptides work on the biology underneath. Semax supports BDNF, a growth factor that helps neurons form and maintain connections. Selank calms the stress chemistry that scatters attention. And because sleep is where memory is consolidated, Dr. Loera often pairs these with a sleep peptide. The goal isn’t stimulation; it’s a brain that has what it needs to work properly.

How it helps

How cognitive peptides help

Stimulants push harder on a tired system. These peptides support the system itself.

Supports BDNF

Semax raises brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which neurons use to grow, connect and repair.

Sharper focus

Users most often describe a steadier, less effortful attention span rather than a buzz.

Memory and learning

BDNF and related pathways are central to how new information is stored and recalled.

Calmer under pressure

Selank moderates the stress response that fragments attention and makes recall harder.

Mood lift

Both peptides have mood-supporting effects, which matters because low mood and brain fog travel together.

No stimulant trade-offs

No racing heart, no afternoon crash, no tolerance building over time.

Ruling out the fixable causes

Brain fog is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Before or alongside peptides, Dr. Loera checks for the common, treatable drivers:

  • Sleep debt or sleep apnea, the single most common cause
  • Thyroid, iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies
  • Hormonal shifts, especially perimenopause and low testosterone
  • Chronic stress and high cortisol
  • Medications with sedating or anticholinergic effects
  • Post-viral fatigue and lingering inflammation

Fixing one of these often does more than any peptide, so we don’t skip the step.

Semax and Selank, briefly

Both were developed in Russia, where they’ve been used clinically for decades. Semax is a fragment of ACTH that supports BDNF and attention without stimulating the adrenal glands; it’s the “focus and memory” peptide. Selank is derived from tuftsin, a naturally occurring immune peptide, and works on GABA and serotonin signaling; it’s the “calm and steady” peptide. Many people use both: Semax in the morning, Selank when stress is the bigger problem.

Pairs well with

Candidates

Is cognitive support peptide therapy right for me?

Often a good fit

  • Brain fog, scattered focus or slipping recall that’s affecting work or daily life
  • Mental fatigue by early afternoon despite reasonable sleep
  • High-stress periods where you need to stay sharp
  • Wanting an alternative to stimulants or more caffeine
  • Willing to address sleep and labs as part of the plan

Let’s talk first

  • Sudden or rapidly worsening memory loss, which needs neurological evaluation first
  • Major depression, bipolar disorder or psychosis, which need psychiatric care
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active cancer or cancer treatment in the last five years
  • Unexplained symptoms with no labs yet (we’ll do those first)

Not sure where you land? A consultation with Dr. Loera is the fastest way to find out.

The process

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Consultation and labs

We go through sleep, stress, medications and symptoms, and check thyroid, iron, B12, vitamin D and hormones as needed.

  2. Step 2

    Your protocol

Dr. Loera selects Semax, Selank or both, decides on a sleep peptide if needed, and sets the schedule.

  3. Step 3

    Teaching

Nasal-spray technique and timing are demonstrated in the office. It takes seconds at home.

  4. Step 4

    Four to eight weeks

Prescriptions ship from a licensed compounding pharmacy. Keep a short daily note on focus, energy and sleep.

  5. Step 5

    Check-in

We review at two to three weeks and again at the end of the course, then plan a break or a maintenance schedule.

Good to know

Cognitive support questions, answered

What is the best peptide for brain fog?

Semax is the most common choice for focus, memory and mental stamina. If stress or anxiety is driving the fog, Selank is often added or used instead. Because poor sleep is the top cause of brain fog, a sleep peptide is frequently part of the plan too.

Are these peptides stimulants?

No. Semax and Selank don’t work like caffeine or ADHD stimulants. They support growth factors and calm stress signaling, so the effect is steadier attention and clearer thinking without jitters, a crash or tolerance.

How quickly do they work?

Many people notice a change in focus within days to two weeks. Memory, learning and mental endurance tend to build over four to six weeks of consistent use.

How are they taken?

As a nasal spray, typically one or two sprays in the morning. Nasal delivery gets the peptide into circulation quickly; there are no injections involved.

Can they help with ADHD?

Some adults with attention difficulties find Semax helpful, but it is not an ADHD treatment and doesn’t replace a proper evaluation. If you have a diagnosis or suspect one, we’ll coordinate with your prescriber.

Are cognitive peptides FDA approved?

No. Semax and Selank are approved in Russia but not in the United States. They are prescribed off-label through compounding pharmacies, and availability can change as regulations evolve. Dr. Loera will confirm what can currently be prescribed.

What are the side effects?

They are generally well tolerated. Brief nasal irritation is the most common complaint. Some people feel slightly wired on Semax at first, which usually settles with a lower dose or earlier timing.

Will they help with memory loss from aging?

They can support everyday recall and mental sharpness in healthy adults. Progressive memory loss, or symptoms that are getting worse quickly, need a neurological evaluation first, and we’ll refer you.

Can I take them with my ADHD or antidepressant medication?

Often yes, but bring your full list. We review interactions and coordinate with your prescriber. Never stop a psychiatric medication on your own.

What does a cognitive protocol cost?

It depends on the peptides and course length. Peptide therapy is self-pay and not covered by insurance. We’ll give you a clear quote at your consultation; our price list is always available.
