GHK-Cu

The copper peptide for skin, hair and tissue repair, from the inside and the outside.

GHK-Cu is a small, naturally occurring peptide made of three amino acids bound to a copper ion. It’s found in your blood, saliva and urine, and it’s abundant when you’re young: levels fall by more than half between your twenties and your sixties. It was first identified in the 1970s when researchers noticed that plasma from younger people made older liver tissue behave younger, and GHK-Cu turned out to be the reason.

Since then it has become one of the best-studied peptides in dermatology and wound care. It stimulates collagen and elastin, supports new blood-vessel growth, calms inflammation and helps hair follicles. Dr. Loera uses GHK-Cu both as a subcutaneous injection, for whole-body tissue repair and anti-aging protocols, and topically for skin and scalp.

How it helps

What GHK-Cu does

GHK-Cu doesn’t do one thing; it resets dozens of genes toward a repair-and-rebuild state. These are the effects people notice.

Collagen and elastin

It signals fibroblasts to produce the proteins that keep skin firm and elastic, improving texture, fine lines and thickness.

Wound and scar healing

It speeds wound closure and improves the quality of scar tissue, which is why it’s used after procedures and injuries.

Hair growth

GHK-Cu enlarges hair follicles and extends the growth phase; it is a common ingredient in hair-restoration protocols.

Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant

It reduces inflammatory signaling and neutralizes oxidative stress in tissue.

Blood vessel growth

It supports new capillaries, feeding repair in skin and deeper tissue.

Gene-level repair signals

Research shows GHK-Cu shifts the activity of hundreds of genes toward tissue regeneration and away from inflammation and breakdown.

What we use GHK-Cu for

  • Skin aging: loss of firmness, fine lines, dullness and sun damage
  • Scars from surgery, acne or injury
  • Wound healing, including after cosmetic and surgical procedures
  • Thinning hair, often with exosomes or other scalp treatments
  • Tissue and tendon repair as part of an injury recovery protocol
  • Whole-body anti-aging protocols aimed at inflammation and repair

Injectable vs. topical

Topical GHK-Cu (serums and creams) works locally on the skin or scalp and is the right choice when the goal is purely cosmetic. Injectable GHK-Cu raises levels throughout the body and is used when the goals include deeper tissue repair, systemic inflammation, or an anti-aging protocol where skin is one benefit among several. Many patients use both: a daily serum plus a course of injections. Dr. Loera will recommend the combination that fits your goals.

Pairs well with

  • Exosomes for skin and hair rejuvenation
  • Growth hormone peptides for a complete anti-aging plan
  • BPC-157 when the goal is injury or post-surgical healing
  • Microneedling or laser treatments, where GHK-Cu supports the healing response afterward

Candidates

Is GHK-Cu right for me?

Often a good fit

  • Skin that has lost firmness or is showing early sun damage and fine lines
  • Scars you’d like to soften, or a procedure you want to heal well from
  • Thinning hair in men or women
  • Slow tissue healing or an anti-aging protocol with repair as a goal
  • Comfortable with a daily serum and/or short self-injection course

Let’s talk first

  • Active cancer or cancer treatment in the last five years (GHK-Cu promotes blood-vessel growth)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Wilson’s disease or other copper-metabolism disorders
  • Known copper or peptide allergy
  • Open infected wounds (treat the infection first)

The process

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Consultation

We discuss your skin, hair or healing goals and decide whether topical, injectable or both makes sense.

  2. Step 2

    Your protocol

Form, dose, frequency and course length, plus any complementary treatments such as exosomes.

  3. Step 3

    Getting started

Injection technique is demonstrated in the office if needed; topical use is as simple as a nightly serum.

  4. Step 4

    Eight to twelve weeks

Prescriptions ship from a licensed compounding pharmacy. Take baseline photos so changes are easy to see.

  5. Step 5

    Review

We compare photos and symptoms at the end of the course and plan maintenance or a next step.

Good to know

GHK-Cu questions, answered

What is GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper peptide made of three amino acids bound to copper. It plays a role in wound healing, collagen production and tissue repair, and its levels decline substantially with age.

What does GHK-Cu do for skin?

It stimulates collagen and elastin, improves skin firmness and texture, softens fine lines, speeds healing and improves scars. It also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that help with redness and sun damage.

Does GHK-Cu help hair growth?

Research shows GHK-Cu enlarges hair follicles, lengthens the growth phase and improves scalp blood flow. It is a common part of hair-restoration protocols, often combined with exosomes or microneedling.

Is injectable GHK-Cu better than topical?

They do different jobs. Topical works locally on skin or scalp. Injectable raises levels throughout the body and is used for deeper tissue repair and anti-aging protocols. Many patients use both.

How long does GHK-Cu take to work?

Skin texture and tone usually improve over four to eight weeks. Scar improvement and hair changes take longer, typically three to six months of consistent use.

Is GHK-Cu FDA approved?

GHK-Cu is widely used in cosmetic products, which are regulated differently from drugs. Injectable GHK-Cu is not an FDA-approved drug; it is prescribed off-label through compounding pharmacies, and availability can change as regulations evolve. Dr. Loera will confirm what can currently be prescribed.

What are the side effects of GHK-Cu?

Topical use occasionally causes mild irritation. Injections can cause injection-site redness or a brief ache; some people report fatigue or nausea at higher doses. Because it promotes blood-vessel growth, we avoid it in people with active cancer.

Can GHK-Cu be used after microneedling or laser?

Yes, and this is one of its best uses. Applied or injected around a procedure, it supports faster healing and better collagen remodeling. We’ll coordinate timing with whoever performs the procedure.

Is it safe long-term?

GHK-Cu is a natural compound your body produces, and topical use has decades of safety data. Injectable courses are typically cycled, with breaks between, and we monitor you throughout.

How much does GHK-Cu cost?

It depends on the form, dose and course length. Peptide therapy is self-pay and not covered by insurance. You’ll get a clear quote at your consultation, and our price list is always available.
